GPE Faculty, Dr. Beth Bee, Awarded RIG

Dr. Beth Bee was recently awarded a THCAS Research Initiation Grant entitled “A Case Study of Chronic Kidney Disease of Non-Traditional Causes in Nicaragua”. Dr. Bee has indicated that since the 1980s, clinics throughout the Global South have become increasingly overwhelmed by patients with end-stage renal disease of non-traditional causes (CKDnT). The award will provide $5000 in research funds to conduct preliminary work in Nicaragua. The proposed work will begin to unravel the relationships between agriculture, health, and the environment. Dr. Bee intends to publish results from this study and use her findings to support and build a larger proposal to investigate this issue more broadly through Central America.
