Current Position & Responsibilities:
“Geomatics Regional Manager; McKim and Creed; Manage all survey operations in Charlotte Office, Western North Carolina, and NW South Carolina. This involves overseeing field and office staff, project management, invoicing, business development, and marketing”
What are the most rewarding and/or most challenging aspects of your work?
“The most rewarding aspect is working within a team atmosphere with a company that truly believes a core value of people helping people.”
How did your degree(s) in Geography prepare you for this position?
“The field experience with GPS, Laser Scanning, and UAS was huge in setting a foundation for my role at McKim and Creed and helping clients with innovative technologies. I was involved in numerous research projects as an undergraduate and graduate research assistant where I was leading all aspects of the field surveying campaigns.”
What else do students need to learn (beyond the degree) and who should they be talking to in preparation for entering the job market?
“Students should be trained in conventional survey techniques. The students need to gain experience with total stations, GPS, UAS, Mobile scanning, and Static scanning as these represent the foundations to geomatics. Geomatics is a constantly evolving field, which requires individuals employed in this area to stay current. The advances in the field forces successful practitioners to be thinking what’s the next technology and techniques that can be used to provide an advantage for my company.”
What was your favorite or most memorable experience in the DGPE?
“The field experience gained from the laser scanning in North Carolina, Colorado, and Massachusetts and GPS trips in North Carolina.”
