Research project/area
“For my research project, I am conducting seasonal surveys using Uncrewed Aerial Systems (sUAS) or drones to observe how islands with limited sediment supply respond to different storms. My research aims to enhance pre- and post-restoration data availability, which can be used to make well-informed decisions regarding habitat change, erosional issues, and the effectiveness of nature-based solutions. Ultimately, this work aims to increase the resiliency of a coastal community in North Carolina.”
Why did you decide to join the graduate program in this department?
“In preparation for graduate school, I researched professors nationwide who focus on coastal geomorphology and geospatial technologies, as these fields align closely with my passions and the skills I aimed to develop. Upon discovering Dr. Hannah Sirianni’s Coastal Geography and Terrain Analysis Lab, I was inspired to join the DGPE. Conversations with her further solidified my decision, as we discussed exciting research prospects and the valuable skills, I could acquire through them.”
